The Raj Niwas Palace in Dholpur is a magnificent structure made of red sandstone, which is more renowned than any precious gems it may possess. In 1779, the British East India Company declared Dholpur a protectorate, which became a part of India in 1949. The princely state ceased to exist in 1956, but the Dholpur Palace, constructed in 1876 to welcome HRH Albert Edward, still stands as a testament to the vibrant history and rich heritage of the region.

The walls are adorned with tiles from Europe and China in rich emerald green and crimson, and the floors are covered in intricate mosaics transported from West Asia. room is filled with artifacts from 19th-century Europe, including Belgian glass, Victorian baths and bidets, and antique brass switches and fans that still work smoothly. You’ll also find an 1894 Swiss music box with Piccolo bells and a turn-of-the-century Barmen Baby grand piano in satinwood.
